My Approach to Massage Therapy

The massage therapy session that I offer is tailored to the needs of each individual.  In order to serve you well, I like to spend some time during the initial session to find out what your needs and goals are.  From there I use techniques of Swedish/Relaxation massage, Deep Tissue, Therapeutic, Myofascial Release and Thai Massage (passive stretching) and some other techniques in order to create an optimal experience.  My goal is to assist your body to relax and release tension causing pain.  Massage is a holistic technique so it honors and balances all parts of you as a human being.

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Jin Shin Jyutsu is described as the art of getting to know and help myself.

"Through Jin Shin Jyutsu our awareness is awakened to the simple fact that we are endowed with the ability to harmonize and balance ourselves (in rhythm with the universe) physically, mentally and spiritually."  Mary Burmeister, Master teacher of JSJ

The body has it's own natural ability to heal itself.  It is said that there are various flows of energy throughout the body.  Due to lifestyle choices, mind states, and emotional and physical habits, there are times in life when these "energy streams" can become blocked.  By placing hands on various points throughout the body, these energy patterns can be harmonized to flow freely and in the right direction.

People may come to Jin Shin Jyutsu to manage such issues as:

Back Pain

Chronic Pain

Insomnia

Side effects from medications

Anxiety and Stress Relief

Depression

Headaches

Flu like Symptoms

Need for mental, physical, emotional balancing

Fatigue

A companion treatment with Chemotherapy

Jin Shin Jyutsu also works to harmonize attitudes that we have that may effect our wellbeing and balance.  The following quote/poem summarizes this effect:

Worries become trust.

Fears become quiet stillness.

Frustration and anger become surrender and acceptance.

Grief and sadness become an awareness of the perfection that we truly are.

Pretense and trying become a gentle relaxation in the magnificence that it is TO BE

A typical JSJ session is as follows:

The first session is usually 90 minutes, follow by a choice of 60 or 90 minutes in the future.  We will check in to understand your needs, intentions, desires and concerns. From there you will recline on a massage table and get comfortable.  I will then place my hands on different parts of the body with the intention of freeing blocked energy and assist your body with its natural ability to harmonize/balance itself.   People often fall asleep or have an experience of profound relaxation.

Yoga and Stress Relief

The Yoga classes and private sessions that I offer focus on movement, breathing and meditation. The main goal of the sessions are for students to learn to reconnect with the wisdom, calm and centered stillness that is innate within each of us.  All movement can be modified to suit the needs of each individual.  I have experience teaching yoga to people of a variety of ages and physical abilities.   Sometimes people can sit in a chair and sometimes on the floor.

Some of the benefits of Yoga are:

  • Increased muscle strength and tone

  • Stress reduction

  • Helps to calm and clear the mind

  • Increased flexibility

  • Pain management

  • Protection from injury

  • Improved respiration, energy and vitality

Many times people say that they cannot do yoga because there are not flexible enough.   This is a misconception about Yoga.  As long as you can breath and you have the motivation and intention to show up and participate, you can do yoga.

The Yoga and my teaching style often resonates people who are:

  • Interested in making changes in their lives

  • Are going through spiritual, mental and or emotional awakenings or transitions

  • Have experienced loss or in the grieving process

  • Would like to connect with and understand the body in a deeper way

  • Stress management

  • Cancer or chronic illness and want to try Yoga and/or energy work as park of their healing journey

  • Interested in the meditation and breathing practices as part of the Yoga experience

  • Interested in having FUN
